A handheld digital pet with a display, where a child feeds and plays with 30 collectible Disney and Pixar characters.
Best for
A child already attached to Disney characters who wants something to look after, and a gift that travels well in a pocket.
Why we picked it
A handheld digital pet with a display, where the child feeds, plays with and unlocks 30 Disney and Pixar characters by swiping, tilting and tapping. The play is responsive rather than passive, so the child directs what happens, and there's no app, no internet and no account required.

Skip it if
Skip it if you're specifically looking for a screen-free gift, because this has a display even though it isn't a tablet or a video device. Skip it too if the child isn't already into Disney characters, since collecting them is most of the appeal, and if a device that needs charging and can be lost is a problem.
