LEGO Classic Medium Creative Brick Box 10696
Ages 4–8 · Under $25
Prices change often — see the current price on the retailer's page.
A 484-piece box of plain LEGO bricks in 35 colours with a storage bin, and no set model to follow.
Best for
A child who wants to build their own ideas rather than follow instructions, and a household that doesn't already own a big brick collection.
Why we picked it
A bucket of 484 bricks in 35 colours with no model to copy and no story attached, so what gets built is entirely the child's call. The included storage bin matters more than it sounds, since loose bricks are the thing that ends up everywhere. It's also the most common entry point to a brick collection that keeps growing rather than being replaced.

Skip it if
Skip it if the child prefers building something specific from instructions, since there's no set model here, or if the household already has a large brick collection this would just add to. The pieces are small, so also skip it if there's a toddler in the house.
